The Military Diet, the Mayo Clinic Diet, the Cleveland Clinic Diet, and the Tuna and Water Diet are all popular 3 day diets. Each of these has a different 3 day diet plan, but they all follow the same fundamentals.

Although these 4 different 3 day diets are similar in many ways, the Military Diet is and has been the most popular of the 4 diets.

So how do these diets work?

The majority of these diets rely on a combination of low calories and low carbohydrates to achieve exceptionally rapid weight loss, usually about two pounds per day.

They are generally thought to have developed in a medical facility to help heart patients reduce weight before surgery. Although the majority of clinics have denied being the creators of these programs, they continue to be popular because they work.

The Mayo Clinic Diet, or simply the Grapefruit Diet differs from the others in that it makes extensive use of grapefruit in the 3 day diet menu.

The grapefruit is said to contain enzymes that help with fat loss. While there is some evidence to support this, the grapefruit’s main usefulness lies in the fact that eating it before a meal pushes you to eat less at that meal.

Grapefruits are high in water and bulk, but low in calories, so they take up a lot of room in your stomach when you consume them. As a result, you’ll eat less higher-calorie foods, which means you’ll consume fewer calories overall at each meal without feeling deprived.

Apart from the grapefruit diet or Mayo Clinic diet, the 3 day diet meal varies depending on the amount of carbohydrates allowed. Some 3 day diets such as the Military Diet prescribe a piece of toast or bread with each meal, while others, such as the Mayo Clinic Diet completely forbid carbs.

With these diets, breakfast usually consists of one or two options. It’s bread and peanut butter on the high-carb diets (Military Diet). On the low-carb diets, two eggs and bacon are frequently the order of the day (Mayo Clinic Diet).

Lunch is a lot like dinner in that regard. The high-carb variants will allow you to have meat, bread or toast, and possibly fruit (Military Diet). You’ll only be eating steak and a salad with full fat dressing if you’re on a low carb diet (Mayo Clinic Diet).

Surprisingly, dinner is usually the same for both diets. Meat and vegetables are the most common food, and they’re frequently served in huge portions, with dinner being the largest meal of the day.

To compensate for the extra carbohydrates, the higher carb or Military Diet has a tendency to be lower in calories. A lower carb 3 day diet such as the Mayo Clinic Diet menu will normally have less calorie restrictions, therefore the trick is to pick diets that you feel you can stick with.
